How much does an online store cost in Costa Rica? 2026 prices

"How much does an online store cost?" is the first question almost every business asks before selling online, and the honest answer is: it depends on how many products you have, how many languages you want to sell in and how much you want to hand off to someone else. What we can do is give you real numbers.

In this article we show you the actual prices of an online store at WEB.CR, the same ones our quote calculator works out, with complete examples and the costs that never show up on a quote but that you will pay anyway.

The base price: ₡934,450 + VAT

An online store at WEB.CR costs ₡934,450 plus VAT (IVA in Costa Rica), ₡1,055,929 in total, and you start with a 50% deposit: ₡527,965. The balance is paid before the store goes live.

That price includes:

  • Up to 8 pages: home, catalog, product pages, contact, policies and whatever else your business needs.
  • A shopping cart with online payments by card and SINPE Móvil.
  • 50 products loaded with their photos, prices and descriptions (you send us the information).
  • A design of its own for your brand, built for phones, and the basic setup so Google can find your store.

If your catalog is bigger, each additional block of 50 products costs ₡45,000.

Three complete examples

To show how it adds up, here are three typical cases worked out with the calculator (prices in colones, 13% VAT included in the total):

Store Before VAT Total with VAT Deposit (50%)
Basic store: 8 pages and 50 products ₡934,450 ₡1,055,929 ₡527,965
Store with a logo: 100 products and logo design ₡1,099,450 ₡1,242,379 ₡621,190
Bilingual store: the one above, also in English ₡1,426,450 ₡1,611,889 ₡805,945

The English version costs 35% of the site (₡327,000 in the third example) and gives your store its own English address, ideal if you sell to tourists or abroad.

You can build your own case in the online store calculator: in a couple of minutes you see the total, download the quote as a PDF and, if you like, pay the deposit right there.

What you can add (or not)

These options are for those who need them; none is required:

  • Copywriting: ₡20,000 per page (double if the store is bilingual). If you already have your texts, you don't need it.
  • Logo: ₡120,000. Logo, colors and typography: ₡220,000.
  • Local SEO (Google Maps profile and 3 pages for your area): ₡150,000.
  • Google Analytics 4 and Search Console, to see which products get viewed and sold: ₡75,000.
  • Google Ads conversions, if you plan to advertise: ₡95,000.
  • Rush delivery, in half the usual time: an extra 25%.

Monthly and yearly costs

A store doesn't end on the day it launches. These are the costs that repeat:

  • .cr domain: US$70 + VAT a year (charged in colones at the day's BCCR exchange rate). If you prefer a .com, it's US$20 + VAT a year. See how to choose a good domain.
  • Maintenance, optional:
    • Basic, ₡25,000 a month + VAT: hosting, backups and small changes.
    • Growth, ₡65,000 a month + VAT: the above plus 2 articles a month and a Google report.

If you'd rather host the store yourself, you pay no maintenance; you just need someone to keep it updated and secure. More details in hosting and maintenance.

Costs that never appear on a quote

This is where many stores get surprised. We don't charge them, but you need to count them:

  • Card fees on every sale. The payment gateway takes a percentage of each sale. Ask your gateway for its rates before you set your prices. SINPE Móvil and bank transfers don't carry that fee for you, but each payment has to be confirmed. See how to accept payments online in Costa Rica.
  • Shipping and packaging. Decide whether the customer pays for shipping, whether it's built into the price or whether you offer free shipping above a certain amount. See shipping for online stores in Costa Rica.
  • Product photography. Good photos sell more than any design. You can take them yourself with good light or hire a photographer.
  • Accounting and e-invoicing. Selling online is selling: you need to be registered with Hacienda (the tax authority) and issue electronic invoices. Ask your accountant how it applies to your business. We cover it in e-invoicing for online stores.
  • Advertising in the first months. A new store has no visitors on day one. Set aside a budget for Google or social media while organic search grows.

Cheap template or custom store?

Platforms like Shopify or Wix have low monthly plans to get started, and for some businesses they're a good option. The difference is in the sum over the years: monthly fees in dollars, apps paid separately and, on some plans, extra fees per sale. Your own store costs more at the start, but the design, the data and the address are yours. In Shopify vs WordPress we compare the two most popular options.

How to find out what yours will cost

  1. Count your products. It's what moves the price the most.
  2. Decide on languages. If you sell to tourists or abroad, the English version pays for itself.
  3. Check what you already have: logo, texts, photos.
  4. Open the calculator and pick your options: the total appears instantly.
