What a landing page is and when your business needs one

In short: A landing page is a single page built for the visitor to do one thing: write to you, get a quote, book or buy. It's used mostly with ads, such as Google Ads or Facebook, so whoever clicks lands right on the offer they saw. It doesn't replace a full website, which builds trust and helps you show up on Google for many searches. Ideally, you have both.

Many businesses pay for ads that lead to their site's home page, or to their Instagram profile. The customer arrives, doesn't quickly find what they saw in the ad, and leaves. A landing page fixes that: the ad promises something and the page delivers it.

What is a landing page?

A landing page is a web page focused on a single goal and a single offer. For example, "Teeth cleaning in Escazú: book your appointment" or "Custom birthday cakes in Heredia".

Unlike the home page, it has almost no menu or distracting links. Everything leads to the same button: WhatsApp, a form or a booking.

How is it different from a full website?

Landing page Full website
Pages One Several (home, services, about, contact, blog)
Goal A single action Inform, build trust and generate contacts
Main use Ads and campaigns Google, social media, referrals
Menu Minimal or none Complete
SEO Limited: one search Many searches, one page per service

When do you need a landing page?

It makes sense when you'll pay to bring in visits and want every click to count. For example:

  • Ads on Google or social media for a specific service or promotion.
  • A launch of a product, a course or an event with a date.
  • A seasonal offer, such as back to school or Christmas.
  • Testing an idea before investing in a full site.

If you won't run ads and only want to be found on Google, you first need a website with a page for each service. See why a new website doesn't guarantee customers.

What should a good landing page have?

  1. A headline that repeats what the ad promised. If the ad says "Acrylic nails in Cartago", the page should say the same at the top.
  2. One main button, visible without scrolling on a phone: "Message us on WhatsApp", "Get a quote" or "Book your appointment".
  3. A price or "from" price, if you can show it. Many people leave if they see no price reference at all.
  4. Proof you can be trusted: Google reviews, real photos, years of experience or customers served.
  5. Answers to common questions, in a few lines: hours, service area, payment methods and delivery times.
  6. Fast loading on phones. Most ad clicks come from a phone.

Common mistakes

  • Sending the ad to the home page, where the customer has to look for the offer.
  • Too many buttons competing with each other: call, email, Instagram, Facebook and a form all at once.
  • Long forms. Ask only for what you need to reply: name and WhatsApp, for example.
  • Not measuring anything. Without conversion tracking, you don't know which ads bring customers. See what to expect from Google Search ads.

Frequently asked questions

Does a landing page help SEO?

A little, but that's not its goal. A single page can only rank for a few searches. To show up on Google for many services, a site with one page per service works better.

Can I use my Instagram profile or Linktree as a landing page?

You can, but you lose control: you can't measure Google Ads conversions properly, and the customer gets distracted by other posts. See Linktree or a website.

How many landing pages do I need?

Ideally one per offer or service you advertise. That way each ad leads to the matching page.
